# Signing and Authentication

<details>

<summary>I didn't receive the Aadhaar OTP. What should I do?</summary>

Check that your mobile number is linked to Aadhaar and has network coverage. Wait 60–120 seconds before requesting another OTP — repeated requests within 30 seconds are blocked (UIDAI error 952), and more than 5 OTPs in 30 minutes block OTP generation for about 30 minutes (error 953). If the mobile is not linked (error 111), update it at an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre, or use fingerprint, iris or face authentication.

</details>

<details>

<summary>The OTP I entered is rejected.</summary>

Enter the latest 6-digit OTP only (error 400 means an invalid OTP). Do not refresh or press Back during the transaction — this starts a new session and invalidates the OTP (error 403).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I use my Virtual ID (VID) instead of my Aadhaar number?</summary>

Yes. The eMudhra eSign page accepts the 16-digit Virtual ID as well as the 12-digit Aadhaar number.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Fingerprint authentication fails repeatedly.</summary>

Make sure the device is a UIDAI-certified L1 Registered Device and its RD Service shows "Ready". Clean the sensor and finger, try another finger, or switch to iris or face authentication. Fingerprint and iris are not available on iOS.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Face authentication isn't starting.</summary>

Install the UIDAI face-capture app (AadhaarFaceRD) on your Android or iOS device, allow camera access, and use good lighting. Face authentication is not available in desktop web flows.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I don't have a mobile number linked to Aadhaar. Can I still sign?</summary>

Yes — use fingerprint, iris or face authentication with eSign v2, or create an eKYC account and use eSign v3.

</details>

<details>

<summary>The eSign page expired before I finished.</summary>

Authentication pages time out for security (ESP-946). Restart signing from the application.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I cancelled by mistake. Can I resume?</summary>

No. Cancelled transactions (ESP-944 / ESP-945) cannot be resumed; start a new signing request from the application.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I sign several documents at once?</summary>

eSign v2 signs one document per transaction. eSign v3 signs up to 5 and Remote Key Storage up to 10 per authorisation.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does eMudhra or the application see my Aadhaar data?</summary>

The application never receives your Aadhaar number, OTP, biometrics or KYC data. eMudhra receives your eKYC data from UIDAI only to issue the certificate, and stores records as required by CCA.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I forgot my eSign v3 PIN or Remote Key Storage AuthPIN.</summary>

Reset your eSign v3 PIN with mobile OTP and email verification (or video verification if no email is registered). An AuthPIN locks after 10 wrong attempts for at least 1 hour, and permanently after 3 lockout cycles; reset requires strong re-authentication such as video verification.
