# FAQ

<details>

<summary>Is an eSign signature legally valid?</summary>

Yes. eSign is notified under the Second Schedule of the IT Act, 2000 and is legally equivalent to a handwritten signature for transactions permitted under the Act. Some document types (e.g., wills, negotiable instruments other than cheques, powers of attorney, trusts, immovable-property sale deeds) are excluded under the First Schedule of the IT Act.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does eMudhra see my document?</summary>

No. For eSign v2, v3 and Remote Key Storage only the SHA-256 hash and a short description (≤ 50 characters) are sent. With eSign v3/Remote Key Storage the ASP may provide a \`docUrl\` for the signer to view the document.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What if the signer's mobile is not linked to Aadhaar?</summary>

Use fingerprint, iris or face authentication with eSign v2, or register an eKYC account for eSign v3.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How many documents can be signed at once?</summary>

eSign v2: 1. eSign v3: up to 5. Remote Key Storage: up to 10 per authorisation. Remote Signing: up to 10 hashes per API call, with unlimited volume.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why does the signer certificate expire within 30 minutes?</summary>

One-time eSign certificates are valid for ≤ 30 minutes by design. Use \`PKCS7pdf\` so the signature embeds a timestamp and revocation data, keeping it verifiable long after the certificate expires.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can a Remote Key Storage certificate be renewed?</summary>

No. Renewal, re-key and suspension are not permitted; enrol a new certificate.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do I need to register as an ASP?</summary>

Only for direct API integration. Otherwise you can use eSign through emSigner.
